Tracing Lines in the Wood

Lines and rings.

The bark of a tree has so many lines and bumps in it. Knots and gnarls. So many scars of what it’s been through.

Trees weather storms, waves, and winds. These scars are testaments to everything they’ve survived. All of the experiences they’ve had, the times they’ve seen.

But what can you see about the inside of a tree.

The rings tell another story. They are hidden to us. Tree rings show how the tree reacted to it’s experiences; how it grew, or cut back. How the tree changed and grew from things it went through.

Are people all that different?

Jagged Edge

I came upon a dead copse of trees at the edge of the ocean.

They sat there alone, barely holding on to the edge of earth. It’s what I imagined the end of the Earth would look like; a barren wasteland falling into the ocean.

Nothing left but a jagged edge.
