Whether it was oppression, hoarding of supplies, or luxuries restricted for the upper class, the lower class has been pushed too far.
There is a revolt.
As the workers rush into the upper levels of the city they break and scatter sacred items from the temples. They set fires as they go. Sculptures are mutilated and the city burns.
The internal uprising is sudden and the upper city is quickly abandoned. As the city begins to fall apart, the lower-classes slowly begin to leave their homes over several days.
The city’s structure is broken. It rose up out of a violent time, providing order, but falls away, back into violence.
The now ruined city of Xochicalco sits empty.
